How to check for Windows updates

  1. Click the Start menu (Windows icon on the taskbar).
  2. Select Settings (the gear icon).
  3. In the left-hand menu, click Windows Update.
  4. Press the “Check for updates” button.

Windows will now look for the latest updates and automatically start downloading anything available.

What to expect

  • If updates are found, they’ll download and install in the background.
  • You may see a Restart required message—just save your work and restart when ready.
  • If everything is up to date, you’ll see a message confirming that.

Helpful tip

Turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” in the Windows Update settings. This ensures you receive important fixes and improvements sooner rather than later.

Keeping your system updated helps improve performance, fix bugs, and protect your PC from security threats.
