Extracting ZIP files in Windows is quick and doesn’t require any extra software.
Method 1: Using Built-in Windows Extractor (Recommended)
- Locate the ZIP file
Go to your Downloads or the folder where the ZIP file is saved. - Right-click the ZIP file
Select “Extract All…” from the menu. - Choose a destination
Pick where you want the files to go (or leave it as default). - Click “Extract”
Windows will unzip the files into a new folder.
Method 2: Drag and Drop (Quick Method)
- Double-click the ZIP file to open it
- Select the files inside
- Drag them into another folder (Desktop, Documents, etc.)
Method 3: Using 7-Zip (Optional for Advanced Users)
If you want more features like extracting RAR or 7z files, use 7-Zip:
- Install 7-Zip
- Right-click the ZIP file
- Select 7-Zip → Extract Here or Extract to “Folder Name”
Troubleshooting Tips
- File won’t open? It may be corrupted—try downloading it again
- Missing “Extract All”? Make sure it’s actually a
.zipfile - Need password? Enter it when prompted during extraction
