The latest figure was revealed by Kevin Turner, who is the chief operating officer of the company. He was speaking at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference held at Washington. The software giant stands at the number one spot with more than 90 percent of PCs running on Windows operating systems.

However, the low number of tablets and mobile devices that are being sold with Windows operating system has become a cause of concern for the software giant. According to the Windows support blogs, the company is planning to take some major steps, which will increase the sales of these devices. One such decision is taking zero revenue for the operating system that are released on devices with screen sizes of 9 inches and less. With the new move, Microsoft hopes to increase the sales of devices with Windows OS preinstalled in them.

The new figure of 14 percent from Microsoft is similar to the data released by the firm Gartner Inc, which had earlier told that there would be just 13.7 percent of Windows devices by the end of last year.
