Windows 8 Apps

Windows 8, Microsoft’s latest Windows operating system has many new features and enhancements from its ancestors. Windows 8 extended the horizon that defined the Windows world to people so far. It brought in many more things that make this operating system a little star in the Windows world. Prior to the release of Windows 8, Microsoft released the Release Preview versions of Windows 8 operating system- Windows 8 Developer Preview and Windows 8 Consumer Preview for developers and consumers to test the new operating system, but there was some problems regarding the availability of proper Windows 8 drivers. And now that the final version of Windows 8 and Windows 8 drivers are here, you can safely go for the upgrade.

Out of the many new amazing changes in Windows 8 is, the Windows 8 App store, just like Apple’s store, android market etc, where people can download Windows 8 apps. ‘Application’ has been reduced to ‘App’, which is a practice from the world of Smart phones.

  • Windows apps come from one place only: And this place is called, the Windows Store. The Windows Store is Available as its own app and it lets you download apps from Microsoft. These apps are automatically installed on your computer once downloaded. Many applications can be downloaded for free, whereas others cost money.
  • Only Windows apps can run on Windows: If you thought you can download apps in your iPhones and Android phones and transfer them to Windows 8, we are sorry, these apps won’t be compatible with Windows 8 as these are not designed to run on your Windows 8 computer. However, some popular app creators create their apps for each platform, but they will differ slightly too.
  • Apps while running fill the entire screen though Windows 8 offers an awkward way to “snap” two apps together.
  • Apps are simple to use but simplicity has its own limitations too. Many apps prevent you from copying words, photos, or links. There is no way you can share an app’s contents with a friend or to leave public comments normally.

Windows programs can be run only on your Windows 8 desktop, whereas apps run in the new world of Start screen only.
