Windows 8 Reading App Cast Aside By Kobo

It seems nothing is going right for Windows 8, or anything related to it. Kobo, the company that produces Kobo eReader (an e-book reader) and e-Reading apps has pulled their Windows 8 e-Reading app from the Microsoft App Store a few weeks ago. This surprising move will affect owners of Microsoft Surface as it prevents owners or anyone on a Windows 8 PC from downloading or reading eBooks. So if you completed downloading Windows 8 and have installed in your system, you will not be able to access or use the Windows 8 Reading App.

The Windows 8 Reading App by Kobo Inc was actually developed before Windows 8 officially launched and before people started downloading Windows 8. The Toronto-based company had the app available for use to the first wave of Beta testers and this happened way back in February 2012.  Before the app was abandoned, thousands of readers were using the app on an everyday basis to purchase eBooks and other digital content, and then read in it.

It seems that the company has tried to reach the company many times during to get an official comment, regarding what actually happened. There was some confusion initially as it was assumed that the company removed the app to allow for the integration of their new magazine and kids book services, but it seems they have totally cast it aside. It seems that the entire app was not up to Kobo’s standards and that many users have complained that it was barely functional, let alone good.

You need not worry, as there is another option available. You can use the Kobo Instant Reader. To access kobo instant reader you can use the internet browser on any Windows 8 or Windows RT tablet. This is actually an HTML5 reading app that was originally developed to provide Apple iPad users the ability to buy eBooks in Safari web-browser. The logic behind such an effort is clear when you think of the hefty commission charges set by Apple. Since Apple takes 30% commission from in-app purchases, so it was basically a secret effort to bypass this mandatory 30% commission.

Kobo had developed an application for Playbook and was orphaned much time ago. And now, this happened.

Though, this was a minor setback, Kobo’s latest eBook reader, Kobo Aura HD is ranked the best. It is the best e-reader among e-book enthusiasts all across the globe.
