๐งฐ What Youโll Need
- USB flash drive (at least 1GB, formatted as FAT32 or exFAT)
- Internet-connected PC
- Official PS4 update file
๐ฅ Step 1: Download the Update File
- On your PC, go to the official Sony PlayStation website.
- Download the PS4 system software update file.
- File name must be: PS4UPDATE.PUP
๐ Step 2: Prepare the USB Drive
- Insert your USB drive into your PC.
- Create this folder structure exactly:
USB Drive
โโโ PS4
โโโ UPDATE
- Place the downloaded file inside the UPDATE folder.
Final path should look like:
X:\PS4\UPDATE\PS4UPDATE.PUP
๐ Step 3: Install the Update on PS4
Method A: From Safe Mode (Recommended)
- Completely turn off your PS4 (not Rest Mode).
- Press and hold the power button until you hear a second beep (about 7 seconds).
- Connect your controller using a USB cable and press the PS button.

- File not found โ Check folder names are EXACT:
PS4 > UPDATE - Wrong file name โ Must be
PS4UPDATE.PUP(all caps) - Drive not recognized โ Reformat to FAT32/exFAT
- Still failing? โ Use the full system reinstall file instead of the smaller update file
