Micro-Star International Co., Ltd (MSI) (Chinese: 微星科技; pinyin: Weixīng Keji) is a Taiwan-based electronics company and one of the world's largest motherboard and video card manufacturers.
Background and Origins
Established in 1986 by its founders Joseph Hsu, Jeans Huang, Frank Lin, Kenny Yu, and Henry Lu, Micro-Star International Co., Ltd (MSI), is one of the biggest mainboard and graphics card manufacturers in Taiwan. It concentrated on developing and manufacturing computer mainboards and graphics cards in the beginning, selling products in more than 120 countries. It is one of the top three, mainboard and graphics card manufacturers in the world. In major markets around the world, it also ranks among the top ten and top five for notebooks and all-in-one PCs, respectively. MSI has been recognized for excellence more than one thousand times by the world media. Diversified Business Operations
In 1995, MSI kicked off its diversified business operation strategy, starting with mainboard and graphics card and extending into consumer electronics. Its products currently include notebooks, all-in-one PCs, barebone systems, servers/workstations, industrial computing, multimedia, car infotainment, and smart cleaning robots.
Due to MSI’s outstanding business and market performance, the government of Taiwan encouraged the company (TSEC: MSI, 2377) to become listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1998.
Expanding Manufacturing Capacity
In recent years, MSI has aggressively expanded into mainland China to meet the needs of global customers. In the first quarter of 2001, MSI’s Baoan Plant in Shenzhen started production, vastly increasing output and revenue. In addition to the Baoan Plant, MSI also established production facilities and a research and development center in Kunshan, China in 2003. Because of the production from both China and Taiwan, MSI is one of the biggest motherboard and graphics card manufacturers in the world.
