LGA 2011-v3 (Socket R3, also known as LGA 2011-3) represents an advancement in socket technology tailored for Haswell-E and Haswell-EP CPUs, as well as Broadwell-E processors, launched in August and September 2014, respectively. This updated socket generation maintains physical similarity to its predecessor, LGA 2011, but incorporates different electrical signals and keying for the Independent Loading Mechanism (ILM). Additionally, it integrates a DDR4 memory controller instead of DDR3, ensuring it is not backwards compatible with older CPUs.
In the server segment, LGA 2011-v3 was succeeded by LGA 3647, while the high-end desktop and workstation markets saw LGA 2066 as its successor. Notably, the Xeon E3 processor family, later rebranded as Xeon E, utilizes consumer-grade sockets.
