WD My Passport Ultra 1TB External Hard Drive WDBTYH0010BSL

Firstly there are no addition drivers required for normal operation on Windows, macOS, Linux or XBOX.  If this drive isn't coming up on a system it could be a few things.

  1. The USB Port

The USB port may not have enough amps to power the drive. Try another USB port this is especially the case when it was working on another system. Use a USB 3.0 port or higher.

2. The Drive format

The format of drive could be different to the current system that is using the device. Each system may format the drive so it can be used. When this drive was originally released it was formatted to Fat32 which can be read on all systems. However if for example the drive has been used on an XBOX One for extra game storage it will change the format to an encrypted version NTFS. macOS might initialize the drive to HFS etc. In any of these cases you will need to use the original system to retrieve the data otherwise you will have to format the drive.

3. Mechanical damage

The drive could be damaged... if this drive is dropped, especially while powered up it will become unusable pretty quick. Little can be done to recover data unless you understand the mechanics of the drive and can replace heads etc.
