Ways to Customize Windows 8

Now that the stage is set, the count-down has already started for the biggest ever release of 2012. Yes! You guessed it right! Windows 8 is what I’m talking about and I guess there wouldn’t possibly be any bigger releases this year than Microsoft’s big bet. According to Microsoft, Windows 8 will be up for grab from October 26 this year.

Well, as you know, Windows 8 is going to be an entirely new experience for computer users as Microsoft has introduced a new user interface called Metro. The Redmond based software giant believes that their latest offering in the line of Windows operating systems will set a much awaited remarkable technological shift. However, not all the computer enthusiasts may feel comfortable with Windows 8, perhaps there be any specific feature that they don’t like, rather than the entire OS. Microsoft has indeed released a beta version of Windows 8 earlier this year so that its millions of customers will get a chance to acquaint themselves with the spanking new features made to the latest OS.

Fortunately, Windows 8 operating system is highly customizable, like in the case of its predecessors.  You can do this either by installing some application and making some fine changes in its settings. Given below are three ways by which you can improve Windows 8.

Adding Start Button

One of the apparent changes that you will find in Windows 8 is the absence of a Start button, which had been a trademark in all the previous versions of Windows operating system. Well, for those of you who can’t actually do away with the Start button and consider its absence as one of the major Windows 8 problems, you can install it using Start8 from Stardock.

Linking Metro Version of IE

Adding to the Windows 8 problems, there are some limitations for the Metro version of IE that comes bundled with Windows 8.

Luckily, you can link it to the desktop version of the browser by opening the search charm and then find inetcpl.cpl. After that you just have to click the Programs tab followed by “Always in Internet Explorer on the desktop” under “Choose how you open links.” Once you do that, you need to check “Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop” and hit “OK.”

Activating God Mode

You can display all the admin tools and control options in a single screen by using the “God Mode.” For activating this mode, you need to right-click on the desktop and click on the option named New Folder. After selecting that option, you have to hit F2. Name it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and press Enter.

Now, these were the three ways to improve Windows 8.
