The drivers for the CH340 are used to connect project boards such as a ESP8266/ESP32 that use rs232 communication to a USB port for programming on a computer. Make sure that you are using a CH340 or CH341 chip because there is often confusion about the chipset. If you have assess to the board itself you can see the writing on the chip which is used by your device. Some boards also use a Silicon Labs CP210x chipset which requires different drivers. Latest version is 3.8.2023.02.
How to installed the CH340 Driver
The driver files can download below, the files are in a zip format. To install these drivers the zip for format the can be extracted in modern versions of Windows by right clicking the zip file and going to 'Extract All...' then choosing a location to place the files that you will later need to point to when you plugin your USB CH340 device. Another way in Windows is using a tool like 7zip to extract the drivers.
Once drivers have been extracted you will need to run the SETUP.EXE located in the base/root of the folder you just extracted.
