macOS High Sierra (version 10.13) is the fourteenth major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. The successor to macOS Sierra, it focuses on improving features, including updates to Photos, Safari, and other applications. It was announced at WWDC 2017 on June 5, 2017.
The name "High Sierra" refers to the High Sierra region in California and alludes to its status as a refinement of Sierra, focused on performance improvement and technical updates rather than major new features visible to the user; previous updates of the same kind by Apple have included Mac OS X Snow Leopard, following Mac OS X Leopard, and OS X Mountain Lion after Mac OS X Lion. The adjective "high" is also a humorous reference to the popularity of cannabis in California; at its release, Apple head of software Craig Federighi described the new version as "fully baked"
macOS High Sierra has the same requirements as its predecessor.
