Windows Server 2008 is a Microsoft server operating system based on the Windows NT 6.0 kernel. Released in February 2008, it introduced improvements to server management, security, virtualization through Hyper-V, and network services. It was available in 32-bit and 64-bit editions, with hardware driver compatibility depending on the server hardware and installed edition.

Windows Server 2008 is available in several editions, including Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, and Web Server. It supports server roles such as file sharing, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and web hosting. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions were released, while Windows Server 2008 R2 is 64-bit only. Microsoft ended extended support for Windows Server 2008 on January 14, 2020, so it no longer receives regular security updates.
